Why is my domain name not available to register?
The probable cause is that it has already been registered by someone else. Most obvious domain names based on surnames, services, products and common words have already been registered. Try combinations of words, with or without a hyphen, the only character allowed apart from letters and digits. |

What can I do if my domain name is not available
Try to think of alternative domain names. If the co.uk version is not available look for the .com version, or the .net version - Again use the domain name checker above, which will list available alternatives. Look at the alternative suggestions provided by the name checker; they may get you thinking about a suitable variation.
There is just a chance that you can 'buy' the domain name from the person who has registered it. Visit the website that has the domain name you want and use any contact details to enquire if the domain name is for sale. If you want the domain name badly enough you may be able to agree a price.
Occasionally if you enter the domain you want you will be directed to a page listing the name as for sale - make an offer. |

Can I find a domain name for free
Looking up domain names does not cost anything. If You want a free domain name, often you can get hosting from the same company you register your domain name with. Sometimes you can register a domain name for free when you take a hosting package - click on www.1and1.co.uk banner above and look at their hosting for an example. |
